Privacy Policy

Public Gems is a golf course directory. There are no accounts, no newsletter, and nothing to sign up for — so there is very little about you for us to collect. This page explains exactly what happens.
What we don't collect
We don't set cookies. We don't use local storage. We have no accounts, so we never ask for your name, email address, or password. We don't sell or rent data to anyone, and we don't run advertising networks or third-party trackers.
Your location
The homepage shows courses near you. To do that, your browser asks permission to share your location. If you decline, we fall back to an approximate location derived from your IP address by ipapi.co. If that also fails, you simply see our top-rated courses instead.
Your coordinates are sent to our server to work out which courses are closest. We don't store them, and they aren't linked to you — the request is answered and discarded.
Analytics
We use Vercel Analytics to count page views so we know which courses people are looking for. It is cookieless and reports in aggregate; it does not build a profile of you or follow you to other sites.
Server logs
Like any website, our servers see the IP address of incoming requests. We use it to rate-limit traffic and block scrapers, and it appears in short-lived hosting logs. We don't use it to identify individual visitors.
Services we rely on
Loading a page on this site means your browser also talks to these companies, each under its own privacy policy:
- Vercel — hosting and analytics
- Mapbox — the map on the Explore page
- Google — course photography and web fonts
- ipapi.co — approximate location, only when browser geolocation is unavailable
Children
This site is meant for a general audience and isn't directed at children under 13. We don't knowingly collect information from them.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, or delete personal information a site holds about you. Because we don't hold any, there is usually nothing to act on — but if you have a question, write to us and we'll answer it.
Changes
If we change what we collect, we'll update this page and the date at the top.
